You may have noted that the Museum did not open on May First and has remained closed.  Earlier this year, the furnace malfunctioned which resulted in the heating pipes freezing.  We were most fortunate as the only water damage was a small section of the downstairs bathroom floor.  We are in the process of getting estimates for the replacement of the furnace and water heater and the pressure testing and repair of the radiators and baseboard registers.  We are hopeful that we may be able to open later in the summer.  Our anticipated exhibits include “Got Bottles?” a display of the milk bottles from the various dairies in the Valley as well as other local bottles;  “The Quilts of Colyer”, a display of the quilts made by three generations of Colyer residents, Blanch Reiber Fye, Elizabeth Decker Reiber, and Hetty Moyer;  And “These Boots are Made for Walking”, the lasts and tools of Centre Hall’s native cobbler, John Martz.

We will be engaged in lots of fund raising activities, so please buy some raffle tickets, and some apple dumplings.  We plan to try some new and different fund raisers, so keep an eye on this space.  If you would like to make a contribution towards the new furnace, we would be most grateful.  Our Treasurer Wes Miller’s address is PO Box 87, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
